Liminal Lakes Script
Audio-Visual Meditation Script with Visual & Mood Annotations
VO:
Welcome to Liminal Lakes.
SFX:
Buzz of a fluorescent light. Faint hum of an air vent. Reverb-heavy water cooler noises. Hollow footsteps in an empty corridor.
Visuals:
A POV perspective moves through a series of overly functional, emotionally neutral liminal spaces, a long corporate hallway, an empty waiting room, a sterile elevator lobby. These spaces are clean, bright, and impersonal, lit with flat fluorescent lighting.
Mood:
Artificial. Disconnected. Designed for transition, not experience. A visual pause between destinations.
VO:
You’ve been here before.
Somewhere in-between.
A hallway with no clear end.
A room made for waiting. A break in the loop.
Take this moment to just pause & lie down.
Slowly notice the parts of your body that meet the ground.
SFX:
A glug of a water cooler ripples through the space.
Visuals:
A water cooler comes into view. The camera slowly zooms in. Plastic cups sit untouched. The hum of the machine fills the space.
Mood:
Stagnant, habitual. A familiar pause point in daily life.
VO:
Inhale as if you’re taking a sip of water.
These spaces can feel so far from nature,
The stagnant water, its flow cut off by a never-ending wall of styrofoam, devoid of the essence of the stream that it once flowed through.
A stream so easy to forget.
SFX:
The hum of the liminal space fades & is softly replaced by the sounds of nature. Subtle leaves rustle and soft natural ambience grows.
Visuals:
The zoom into the water cooler continues, each bubble transforming into a babbling brook. The viewer's perspective transcends from this liminal space into a gently running stream. The office tiles dissolve into natural stone. The aesthetic shifts to layered, double exposure video: natural textures overlaid on slowly fading liminal backdrops.
Mood:
Release. Reconnection. A return to something real.
VO:
This water… it’s not still, it’s not sparkling.
It’s alive, shimmering in the dappled sunlight beneath the canopy.
As you float in this soft cocoon of the stream. It feels as if it’s moving through you.
Guiding you into a sense of momentum that feels as if it came from within.
SFX:
The stream sound deepens, flowing more freely.
Visuals:
The camera begins to drift forward through the stream, blending low-opacity shots of liminal spaces with vivid footage of native plant life, sunbeams through trees, and flowing water. It’s a gentle visual journey forward, a crossing point.
Mood:
Fluid. Reflective. Restorative.
VO:
And in that momentum, a quiet message rings true.
The more time you spend out there,
the more you realise there’s less of these spaces than before
When the stream slips out of sight,
it shifts out of mind.
And with it, maybe a little bit of hope.
Acknowledging that feeling may be a little uncomfortable but you welcome it. Give it the presence it deserves.
As the light beams through the trees, that heavy feeling lightens as you float along with ease.
You now feel that current passing through you.
Carrying you forward.
You can feel the possibility that comes as that little ripple of nature starts to pour back into your life,
and into the lives of the generations to come.
Visuals:
We see close-up overlays of cracked ground, dried branches, forgotten greenspaces — each layered gently behind the flowing stream. They fade out slowly. The stream continues.
Mood:
Tender honesty. A calm invitation to awareness.
SFX:
The stream softens, just a gentle flow.
VO:
As you continue to float, remember this moment. Encourage it to visit you each time you take a sip.
Take a look around.
Remember this feeling.
This momentum.
It’s still there.
It’s always there.
SFX: the sound of the stream shifts back into the slow gulg of the water cooler and the natural shows shift back to the sounds of the liminal space.
Visuals:
The stream transforms back into the water cooler & the initial sequence to the water cooler reverses.
VO:
Before you leave this room, this space in between, there’s a door to be opened.
But before you reach for the handle,
Take a moment to reach for a piece of paper and a pen.
Take a moment to reflect:
What little ripple of action could you add to each day that could bring you & our future generations closer to nature?
Visuals:
The visuals illuminate the exit to the building. Slowly, the scene transforms into the same hallway from the beginning, but now transformed by warm natural light filtering through the cracks. As the sequence begins again as a perfect loop that natural light fades to begin the process again.
Mood:
Hopeful. Empowered. Gently catalytic.
